Maulid Owino

Maulid Owino is a Nairobi-based performing artist and contemporary dancer with over 5 years of professional experience. He began his dance journey with Dance Into Space in 2020, training under Mathew Ondiege. In 2021, he founded Dance Unites, a platform aimed at fostering collaboration and storytelling through dance films, and workshops. Maulid has performed at renowned festivals such as JOMBA! Dance Festival in South Africa, and Dancing Feet in Kenya. His award-winning dance film when time stops has been showcased internationally, including at Ubumuntu Arts Festival in Rwanda, Dance on Camera in New York, JOMBA! Festival in Durban, and Pooltanz Movement in Berlin. In 2024, he travelled to Canada, collaborating with Jamii Esplanade and other artists. Maulid presented his first solo piece Sudden Moments as part of a choreographic Mentorship in Muda Africa in Tanzania at Jukwaa Huru Festival. In February 2025 he spent two weeks in South African with FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY in an exchange residency supported by ADDN. Passionate about using dance as a medium for societal change, Maulid’s work emphasises storytelling, inclusion, and education.
