Freefall Dance Company – Birmingham, UK

Founder and director: Lee Fisher

About the company:

FREEFALL DANCE COMPANY is part of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s LEAP (Learning Education and Participation) programme and inclusivity work. Established in 2002 by Lee Fisher, part-time Head of Creative Learning, the company evolved out of a partnership between Birmingham Royal Ballet and Fox Hollies Special School. It was established to challenge stereotypical views of people with disabilities and dance – through the creation of a high-quality training and performance provision that showcases the creative talents of people with a learning disability. Founded on the principles of Classical Ballet, Special Education and the philosophy of Community dance, the company mirrors the activities of a professional repertory company with regular performances and their very own education and outreach workshop programme.

The company is particularly proud of its award-winning dance for the camera films and most recently, its ground-breaking work using virtual reality. This initiative is led by former Soloist dancer with the Birmingham Royal Ballet TOM ROGERS whose team won the award in 2024 for Digital Innovation in Dance at the annual OneDance UK awards.
